Apple’s “Time Flies” event has come and gone without the hotly-anticipated iPhone 12 series. But for the iPad Air fans, the occasion was one for celebrating.

Apple has finally taken the wraps off its 4th-generation iPad Air, the

. And if you’ve followed its developments before its unveiling, the rumor mill has gotten it right. Again.

The new iPad Air features a fresh design, one that is inspired by the iPad Pro lineup. The tablet now has slim bezels and flat edges.

It boasts an enormous 10.9-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD panel, with a resolution of 1,640 x 2,360 pixels. The usual display suspects are present: True Tone Display, wide color gamut, oleophobic coating, scratch-resistant glass, and 500 nits of typical brightness.

Meanwhile, the iPad Air 4 (2020) also introduces a novel Touch ID, one that is integrated into its new, top-mounted power button.

On its rear, the iPad Air 4 (2020) also has cleaner aesthetics. The panel sports a 12-megapixel shooter with f/1.8 aperture ― the same shooter the iPad Pro models feature. Support for 4K video recording at 60fps, 240fps slow-mo, and improved video stabilization are likewise in the mix.

On the front, the new iPad Air has a 7MP camera, equipped with an f/2.0 aperture; it can also record 1080p videos at 60fps.

Under the proverbial hood, the iPad Air 4 (2020) truly unleashes its real attraction. The tablet is powered by Apple’s new A14 Bionic chipset, the same SoC that is expected to fuel the forthcoming iPhone 12 series.

On paper, the A14 Bionic chip is built on a 5nm process, another first for Apple in the industry. It features a 6-core CPU design, with two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores.

According to Apple, the performance of the new chip is improved by 40% over the previous iPad Air launched in 2019. Its GPU is also 30% faster.

The new iPad Air is also now home to a USB Type-C port. Users are also to receive a 20W charger in the box. The tablet also has Wi-Fi 6 on board, dual speakers, and support for Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard.
